Acceptance of these terms

By using caffcalc.com you agree to the terms set out on this page. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. These terms were last updated on September 12, 2026.

Informational purposes only

CaffCalc is not medical advice and is not a diagnostic tool. Nothing on this site is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and nothing here replaces consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.

The calculator, the articles and the reference pages are general education. They cannot account for your medical history, your medications, or any condition you may have. If you are worried about your caffeine intake, or about symptoms you are experiencing, speak to a doctor or pharmacist.

In an emergency — if you or someone else shows severe symptoms after consuming caffeine, such as chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, seizures, confusion or difficulty breathing — contact your local emergency services or a poison control centre immediately. Do not use this website to decide whether to seek help.

How the estimates are produced

The calculator's outputs are estimates derived from published population-level guidelines, not personal medical guidance. It combines a body-weight calculation with an age-band ceiling and adjusts for pregnancy, breastfeeding and a self-reported sensitivity setting.

The underlying reference points are:

  • The U.S. Food & Drug Administration, which cites 400 mg per day as an amount not generally associated with negative effects in healthy adults.
  • The European Food Safety Authority, whose 2015 opinion assesses single doses of 3 mg per kg of body weight and habitual daily intakes of 5.7 mg per kg as not raising safety concerns for healthy adults, and which addresses children and adolescents on a per-kilogram basis.
  • The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which describes moderate caffeine consumption during pregnancy as under 200 mg per day.

These are population figures. Individual tolerance varies substantially — genetics, liver function, smoking status, pregnancy and several common medications all change how quickly caffeine is cleared. A result the calculator describes as within limits may still be too much for you.

Intended users

This tool is designed for adults. The guidance it applies to anyone under 18 is deliberately more restrictive than the adult figures:

Under 13

The calculator does not return a "safe" caffeine allowance for children. Health authorities do not establish a recommended intake for this group.

Ages 13–17

A substantially lower ceiling is applied than for adults, calculated on a per-kilogram basis.

Parents and guardians should treat these outputs as a conversation starter with a paediatrician, not as permission.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We work to keep caffeine values and guideline figures accurate and sourced, but manufacturers reformulate products, serving sizes differ by region and outlet, and published guidance changes. We do not warrant that the content is complete, current or error-free, or that the site will be uninterrupted.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, CaffCalc and its operator accept no liability for any loss, injury or damage — direct, indirect, incidental or consequential — arising from your use of, or reliance on, this website or its calculator. You use the information here at your own risk, and decisions about your health remain yours and your clinician's. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
