Caffeine by size

Serving Caffeine Share of 400 mg
Tall, 12 fl oz (355 ml) 75 mg 19%
Grande, 16 fl oz (473 ml) 150 mg 38%
Venti, 24 fl oz (710 ml) 225 mg 56%

One more shot at Venti size

Iced and hot Caffè Lattes match at the smaller sizes: 75 mg in a Tall, 150 mg in a Grande, both built from one and two shots of espresso. The Venti is where they split. The hot Venti is a 20 oz cup with two shots, 150 mg, the same as a Grande. The iced Venti is a bigger 24 oz cup with three shots, 225 mg, because Starbucks adds a shot rather than just more ice and milk to fill the larger cold cup.

Against other iced options

A Grande iced latte’s 150 mg is well below a Grande Iced Shaken Espresso (225 mg), which uses more shots and less milk, and below a Grande Cold Brew (205 mg), which is steeped rather than pulled as espresso. It is close to an 8 oz cup of drip coffee at USDA’s reference strength (95 mg) and a half.

Ordering the iced Venti for the extra shot, rather than just more ice, is worth knowing if you’re trying to match a hot-size habit: asking for a hot Venti instead keeps the caffeine at 150 mg, the same as a Grande.

Where it fits in a day

At 150 mg, a Grande iced latte sits under the 200 mg single dose EFSA assessed as safe for healthy adults; the 225 mg Venti is over it. Two Grandes, 300 mg, leave 100 mg of the 400 mg daily figure the FDA cites. In pregnancy, where ACOG uses a 200 mg daily ceiling, even a Tall uses over a third of the day’s allowance.
