270 mg in a larger energy-drink can
Celsius Essentials is a 16 oz energy drink line from Celsius. The manufacturer lists 270 mg of caffeine per can, which is 70 mg more than the 12 oz Celsius Original and the same can size as the Original. Celsius explicitly recommends consuming no more than one can per day of the Essentials line.
A 270 mg dose is above the 200 mg single-dose figure EFSA notes can affect sleep in some adults. For a 70 kg adult, 270 mg is about 3.9 mg/kg, which is within the lower end of the exercise-performance range (3–6 mg/kg) but close to the daily ceiling for many people. If you drink one Essentials can and a coffee later, you can quickly exceed the FDA’s 400 mg daily reference for healthy adults.
When the Essentials line differs
Celsius Essentials contains additional functional ingredients beyond caffeine, including vitamins and amino acids, but the caffeine is the main number to track for safety. The larger can does not mean the caffeine is diluted; it is a higher-caffeine product than the 12 oz Original in the same line.
For comparison, Monster Energy Original has 160 mg in a 16 oz can, and Alani Nu Energy has 200 mg in 12 oz. Celsius Essentials sits near the top of the per-can caffeine range for common energy drinks.
Timing matters for this dose
Because 270 mg is a substantial single serving, drinking Celsius Essentials late in the day is more likely to affect sleep than a smaller energy drink. Caffeine’s half-life averages about five hours but can stretch to nine hours in slow metabolizers, so an afternoon can can still be active at bedtime. The brand’s one-can-per-day recommendation is partly a caffeine-safety message.
