A small can with a real dose
Starbucks Espresso & Cream, a ready-to-drink can made by PepsiCo, packs 120 mg of caffeine into a small 6.5 fl oz can. Per ounce, that is considerably stronger than a generic bottled coffee drink (about 28 mg per 100 g) and closer to straight Starbucks Espresso, which is exactly what it’s built to imitate in a shelf-stable can.
Easy to finish in one go
Because the can is small, it’s easy to drink the whole 120 mg quickly, unlike a larger iced coffee that might be sipped over an hour. That is worth knowing if you’re also having espresso drinks or brewed coffee the same day: the can’s dose is comparable to a Doppio (two shots) of Starbucks Espresso at 150 mg, just slightly less.
A convenience product, not a café substitute
This can is designed for grab-and-go convenience rather than replicating the café experience exactly; the espresso is combined with cream and packaged for shelf stability, which changes the texture and flavour from a freshly pulled shot even though the caffeine dose is comparable. It’s a reasonable stand-in for a quick shot of caffeine when a café isn’t an option.
Where it fits in a day
At 120 mg, a can sits well under the 200 mg single dose EFSA assessed as safe for healthy adults. Three cans, 360 mg, stay under the 400 mg daily figure the FDA cites for healthy adults. In pregnancy, where ACOG uses a 200 mg daily ceiling, one can uses well over half the day’s allowance.
